We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a door that just took a baseball to the panel. Every person on this page lives in the Fort Worth area, drives a Mainspring truck, and answers to Carl. What ties us together isn’t a handbook. Our People

Carl Dutton, Owner

I started this company in 1984, back when Fort Worth’s western edge was basically White Settlement Road and a lot of cattle pastures. The name Mainspring came from the coiled torsion spring that carries every pound of your door’s weight. Most people never think about it until it snaps at 11 p.m. and they’re trapped in their driveway. I’ve personally replaced thousands of them, and I still keep a few in my own garage just to remind myself what a bad day looks like.

These days I run the business, answer calls when the board lights up, and make sure our standing offers stay standing. The $50 off repairs over $250, the free second opinion, the $89 tune-up, the 5% for seniors and veterans. Those aren’t seasonal specials I can yank when times get tight. I put them in writing because a square deal shouldn’t have an expiration date.

My wife says I talk about garage doors at dinner. She’s not wrong.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus joined us in 2017 after eight years running his own handyman operation in Haltom City. He got tired of chasing payments and wanted to work somewhere the price was settled before the first wrench turned. He’s factory-trained on LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, and Raynor opener systems, and he’s the one we send when a job’s got electrical gremlins nobody else can trace.

He lives in Lake Worth with two rescue dogs who, he claims, are better judges of character than he is. His truck is the neatest in the fleet. Every tool has a shadow board. When a customer in River Oaks asked him why, he said, “Because I don’t get paid to hunt for things.” He’s completed more single-visit repairs than anyone on the crew, mostly because he inventories his truck like he’s expecting a supply-chain apocalypse.

Dolores R., Senior Installer

Dolores came over from commercial construction in 2019, and she brought standards with her. She handles our new door installations and full replacements, the jobs where measurements matter down to the eighth-inch and a crooked track means a door that shudders every morning for ten years. She’s certified on Clopay, Amarr, and Wayne Dalton systems, and she’s particularly good at matching door styles to Fort Worth’s older homes, the ones in Mistletoe Heights or Fairmount where the HOA has opinions.

She keeps a notebook of every custom job she’s done. Not for us. For herself. “So I know what not to repeat,” she says, though she’s also been known to sketch door designs on napkins at the Tin Panther. She grew up in Oak Cliff and still drives back for her mother’s pozole on Sundays.

James K., Service Coordinator

James is the live voice that answers when you call (817) 766-2028 at 2 a.m. on a Saturday because your spring snapped and your car is trapped. He’s been with us since 2021, and before that he dispatching for a plumbing outfit in Arlington. He knows which technician is closest to Benbrook versus Keller versus the Hospital District, and he knows who’s got the right springs on their truck for a 16-foot Clopay versus a 14-foot Amarr.

He works nights by choice. Says the phone rings less but the people who call need more. He’s got a map of Fort Worth’s alleys taped above his monitor because GPS doesn’t know which ones dead-end behind the TCU rental properties. Off duty, he restores vintage motorcycles and has strong opinions about British electrical systems.

Elena V., Apprentice

Elena started in January of 2025, our newest hire and our first woman apprentice. She’s shadowing Marcus on repairs and Dolores on installs, logging her hours toward journeyman status under the K.E.Y.S. program. She came to us from a maintenance role at a Fort Worth ISD warehouse, where she kept overhead doors running across seventeen campuses. She’d already seen every failure mode a school district can throw at a door: basketball impacts, vandals, decades of deferred maintenance.

She asks more questions than the rest of the crew combined, which is exactly what we want. Her first solo repair was a cable replacement in Wedgwood, and she called Marcus twice before she started. The second call was just to confirm she’d brought the right winding bars. She had. The customer sent us a note saying she explained the work better than any technician they’d ever had.
